Abby Drover
The Kidnapping of Abby Drover.
Case Synopsis
Abby Drover was abducted from her Port Moody, British Columbia neighborhood by her neighbor, Donald Alexander Hay, who had secretly built a soundproof underground bunker beneath his garage. Abby was held captive there for 181 days, enduring abuse and isolation. Her rescue came after Hay’s wife, concerned by his behavior, contacted police. When officers searched the property, they heard faint cries coming from a ventilation shaft. Following the sound, they discovered Abby emerging from the bunker through a narrow opening. She was freed on the spot, ending a harrowing ordeal that had gripped the community for months. Hay was later convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
