In August 2011 Carol King, originally from Newfoundland, was found murdered near her home in Herschel, Saskatchewan after going missing on August 6, 2011, when her car was discovered partially submerged and her body found weeks later. Her ex‑boyfriend, Joseph “David” Caissie, was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and offering an indignity to a body; he was convicted in January 2019 and received a life sentence with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
