Synopsis

Cynthia “Cindy” Elizabeth James (née Hack), a 44-year-old Canadian nurse from Richmond, B.C., vanished on May 25, 1989 after running errands and cashing her paycheck. Around two weeks later, on June 8, her partially decomposed body was discovered in the backyard of an abandoned home—hands and feet tightly bound behind her back with rope, and a black nylon stocking tied around her neck. An autopsy revealed a fatal overdose of morphine, diazepam, and flurazepam—roughly ten times a lethal dose of morphine was found in her system. Though police ultimately ruled her death a suicide or accident, citing her history of depression and the absence of corroborating evidence for her alleged stalking and attacks, many experts and family members argue the elaborate and physically difficult manner in which the bindings were arranged strongly suggest homicide rather than self‑inflicted death
