Wilbert Colin Thatcher (born August25, 1938, in Toronto) was a Saskatchewan rancher turned politician who served as MLA for the Thunder Creek riding—from 1975 initially as a Liberal and later as a Progressive Conservative, ultimately becoming Minister of Energy in 1982–83. He garnered widespread notoriety following the violent death of his ex-wife, JoAnn Wilson, who was bludgeoned and shot in her Regina garage on January 21, 1983. In 1984 Colin Thatcher was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with no eligibility for parole for 25 years. After serving roughly 22 years, he was granted full parole in 2006, and later remarried in 2010
