On December 21, 1990—just four days before Christmas—Cynthia Kilburn, daughter of billionaire businessman Jim Pattison, was kidnapped from her home in North Vancouver. A threatening ransom note demanding $8.5 million was pinned to her front door, and her four-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, were found bound but unharmed in an upstairs bathroom. She was held for approximately 14 hours before being released safely by her captors. Seven people were arrested following the crime, which shocked the community and garnered extensive media attention.
