On December 21, 1990—just four days before Christmas—Cynthia Kilburn, daughter of billionaire businessman Jim Pattison, was kidnapped from her home in North Vancouver. A threatening ransom note demanding $8.5 million was pinned to her front door, and her four-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, were found bound but unharmed in an upstairs bathroom.
