Read synopsis
Gail Miller, a 20-year-old nursing aide, was found stabbed to death in a snowy Saskatoon alley after leaving for work on a freezing winter morning. Police quickly focused on 16-year-old David Milgaard, a free-spirited teenager passing through the city with friends. Despite weak evidence and contradictory statements, Milgaard was convicted and spent over two decades in prison. His mother fought relentlessly for his freedom, and advances in DNA testing eventually revealed the real killer: serial sex offender Larry Fisher, who lived near the crime scene at the time. Milgaard was exonerated after more than 23 years behind bars, and the case became one of Canada’s most profound examples of the tragic cost of wrongful conviction.
