Synopsis
Julie Ann Stanton, a 14‑year‑old from Pickering, Ontario, vanished on April 16, 1990, after being seen entering a grey Chevrolet Monte Carlo near her home. Investigators quickly focused on Peter John Stark, a neighbor and the father of her friend Kim, who had a history of violence toward women and was known to have met Julie under the guise of discussing his daughter. Despite no physical or forensic evidence, circumstantial details—including Stark’s lies about his whereabouts, scratches on his back, and inconsistent car repair claims—combined with testimony from a jailhouse informant, led to his arrest. He was convicted of first-degree murder on December 1, 1994, and sentenced to life imprisonment with no parole eligibility for 25 years. Julie’s remains were finally discovered on June 27, 1996, about 35 km north of Pickering, confirming the worst fears of her communit.
