Kevin Louis Vermette

Still at large, 27 years on.

In July 1997, three young adults—Michael Mauro, David Nunes, and Mark Teves—were shot and killed while camping near Kitimat, British Columbia, and a fourth individual was seriously wounded. The sole suspect in the triple homicide is Kevin Louis Vermette, who vanished into the wilderness after abandoning his vehicle at a nearby motel. Despite years of investigation, his whereabouts remain unknown, and RCMP issued a Canada-wide warrant, describing him as armed and dangerous. A fresh police sketch was released in 2024, but nearly three decades later, the case remains one of British Columbia’s most haunting cold-cases: a brutal crime followed by a vanishing act.
