Synopsis
Read case story
Rene Castellani was a charismatic radio promotions manager and on-air personality at Vancouver’s CKNW in the 1960s, known for his bold publicity stunts and popular voice on local airwaves. In 1965, he was convicted of murdering his wife, Esther Castellani, by slowly poisoning her with arsenic—disguised in milkshakes—while carrying on an affair with a younger woman at the station. The case shocked the public, both for its chilling method and because Castellani maintained a cheerful public persona throughout his wife’s prolonged illness. He was sentenced to life in prison but was later paroled.
