The Stopwatch Gang

Stephen Reid, Patrick (Paddy) Mitchell, and Lionel Wright

Between 1974 and 1980, the shadowy trio known as the “Stopwatch Gang” executed more than 140 bold, clock-timed robberies of banks and armored cars across Canada and the U.S., netting millions in cash, gold, and valuables. Their signature: speed, precision, and almost uncanny planning—often robbing a bank in two minutes or less. Over time, law enforcement closed in. The gang members were arrested, tried, and jailed, bringing an end to their daring crime spree—but their legend would echo far beyond their prison bars.
